As you might expect, my initial exploration involved the philosophy and strategies of the traditional training scrolls. However, with that exploration satisfied, my approach these days is on reality-based street defence... focusing on the tactics of bullies, street predators, gangs and criminals.
My blog 'It's Primal Protection' is about trying to avoid a confrontation, and was initially put together for people who couldn't see themselves doing martial arts, but still wanted to feel safer and more confident.
The blog offers self-protection tips without the self-defence, and involves a mixture of psychological insight, de-escalation tactics, and counter-surveillance basics. The insights are useful for men, women, parents, and teenagers.
My original blog (It's a Primal Thing) is an extension of the life-coaching that I offered my black belt students : applying martial art philosophy and tactics to everyday life.
A Corporate Trainer I know, who was also a University lecturer, asked me to offer similar insight to University graduates who were looking for employment in the corporate sector. So I set up the blog, and started with insights into how-and-why you should present yourself as a Alpha personality when you're being interviewed.
However the blog quickly became a social commentary about the primal hard-wiring of men and women, and about society as a whole. Eventually the insights also became a guide on the subject of 'Image Projection' for Close Quarter Protection Operatives (bodyguards).
Both my blogs are now endorsed by the International Close Quarter Protection Operators Association (I.C.Q.P.O.A.) : http://icqpoa.blogspot.com.au/
I hope you enjoy my postings, and from time to time are challenged by them.
